Borrow

What can I borrow from Beaverton City Library?

Both Beaverton City Library locations are part of Washington County Cooperative Library Services (WCCLS). If you don't find what you're looking for at the main library or the Murray Scholls branch, you can request some materials to be sent from other public libraries within the county to be held for you at either location. WCCLS libraries carry books, magazines, music and audiobook CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays, eBooks and eAudiobooks, and materials in many different languages.

Both Beaverton City Library locations have a Library of Things collection, with items like board games, musical instruments, and more. Learn more about the Library of Things.

Requesting Items

If an item you are interested in is not available at either Beaverton City Library location, you can submit a request to have it sent to your closest library for pickup. When it is available, the item will be sent to the library you designated and held there for 7 days. You will be notified that it is ready based on your preferences.

Loan Periods

Most library materials check out for 21 days. Exceptions:

  • New Fiction DVDs & Blu-ray Discs (for kids and adults) - 7 days
  • Video Games - 7 days
  • In-Demand, Non-Holdable Books & Audiobooks - 14 days
  • Library of Things - 14 days (check loan period)
  • Reference Materials - Do not check out

It's always good to verify the due dates on your account as materials from other libraries may have different loan periods.

Renewing Items

Three days before your item's due date, our system will try to automatically renew it. You will receive an email or text message letting you know which items were renewed and which items are still almost due. Most items can be renewed up to four times.

Automatic renewal (and renewing items manually) may be blocked under some conditions, including:

  • Someone is waiting for the item and another copy is not available
  • You need to renew your library account
  • The item is a non-renewable item

What happens if I don't return items on time?

Library materials no longer accrue overdue fines, but remember to return or renew items on time, as accounts will be billed for items that are not returned.

Cardholders may be charged for damages to items borrowed from the library. Replacement copies are not accepted.

Borrowing privileges are suspended on accounts with $20.00 or more outstanding in charges. Fees may be paid at any WCCLS library or online.

As a courtesy, WCCLS sends a reminder three days before library items are due to cardholders who have selected to receive library notifications by email or text message.

WCCLS notifies cardholders by email, phone call, text message, or mail when items are overdue. Bills are sent when items are overdue for 25 days.
