Booking Ahead: A year's worth of reading themes

Booking Ahead is Beaverton City Library’s year-long reading program!

You can participate by picking up a Booking Ahead passport at Beaverton City Library Main or Murray Scholls Branch.

Read or listen to books that fit the monthly themes, and enter to win monthly prizes and a Grand Prize at the end of the year.

NovemberRead a book in translation.
DecemberRead an epistolary novel (one that’s written as a series of letters, diary entries, or emails) or a non-fiction collection of letters.
January 2020: Read Call Me American by Abdi Nor Iftin, this year's One Book, One Beaverton pick.
February 2020Read an #OwnVoices book. #OwnVoices refers to a book that was written by a member of a marginalized community that depicts that same community through its characters and setting.

March 2020Celebrate Women’s History Month! Read a book by or about a woman/women in science (fiction or non-fiction).
April 2020Read a book written by someone under 35 years of age.
May 2020Celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month! Read a book by an Asian, Pacific Islander, or Asian-American author.
JuneCelebrate Pride Month! Read a book by an lgbtq author or about someone from the lgbtq community.
JulyRead a travel adventure (fiction or non-fiction).

AugustCelebrate serendipity! Read a book that you find serendipitously while browsing the shelves at the library or bookstore (or virtual library). Try and choose one that you’ve never heard of!
SeptemberRead a book about an issue that is important to you.

OctoberRead a book that crosses genres (like a fantasy/mystery or romantic thriller).
