To be a King
by Kathryn Lasky
Five stars
Read this book right now & tell all your friends!
The book is about an owl who was raised by his uncle because his father (H'rath) was killed in battle and his mother (Siv) had to let the owlet's uncle take care of him because the hagsfiends were looking for her (that would put the little owl in danger). Eventually, the owl grew up and found out he was a king. So, he went to the beyond the beyond, retrieved the ember of Hoole from one of the beyond's volcanoes, set up his place that he and all the other owls, that would soon be known as guardians, could live. On an island in the southern sea, and took back the ice palace from Theo's brother who had taken it from Lord Arrin by then.
I really loved the book! One of my favorite parts in the book was when Theo's brother took the Ice palace from Lord Arrin and violated all of the H'rathian code of honor, therefore, the whole ice palace began to melt and the only way to restore it to its normal self was to bring the special ember that was retrieved by the main character (H'rath and Siv's son) was needed inside the palace. As I said before, I just really love this book and really recommend it for kids of about the age of nine and higher, after you read the first ten books in the series.
